JOIN US ON MONDAY TO END OUR 2023-2024 MONTHLY LUNCHEON SERIES.
Subject: "Traffic Operations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup”
Kansas City was selected in summer 2022 as one of the 16 host cities in North America for World Cup 2026. The presentation will discuss how the Kansas City Sports Commission got transportation engineers involved in bolstering their bid for the World Cup after initially receiving a low score in that category from FIFA. The benefits of Kansas City's transportation system, sustainability goals, partnerships with the public and private sector, equity considerations, high-level plans for transporting fans around the metro area, and what the venues will look like in 2026 will be presented. Coordination with other host cities will be discussed from a national perspective as well.

Matt & Mandy have volunteered with the Kansas City Sports Commission regularly for various athletic events around Kansas City for several years. They volunteered their time with the 2026 World Cup Bid Committee as traffic operations specialists starting in 2021, culminating in the selection of Kansas City as one of the host cities in the summer of 2022. They also advised on operations for the NFL Draft held in Kansas City in April 2023.
